Does the brand Blue Cross rings a bell to you? When I first received an email from them for a collaboration, I suddenly remembered that I encountered this brand 7 years ago when I was buying a Pregnancy Test Kit. Philippine Blue Cross Biotech Corporation has been around since 1997. They started out with diagnostics products and then they are now offering health care products. Before, their products are distributed only to clinics, hospitals, and health care professionals but now, they are available at leading drugstores nationwide.
What made Blue Cross products stand out are their Home Screening Tests such as the Pregnancy Test, Ovulation Test, and UTI Test. UTI Test at home??? Yes, as in Urinary Tract Infection test at home! Honestly, I was surprised to know that you can have yourself tested at the comforts of your own home for urinary tract infection. Blue Cross’ representative proudly told me that they are the first and only Home Screening UTI Test kit sold in the Philippines today.
Benefits of One Step Home Screening UTI Test
Convenient, Affordable, and Fast.
The reason why this home test kit was made available over the counter is for our convenience. I suffered from UTI once, Jeff experienced UTI since he was a kid, and Gwen also had an infection twice. I’m really not comfortable inside hospitals, more so using their comfort rooms. If you’re having urinalysis, you need to use the toilet to collect a sample. After that, you need to wait for a few hours to get the results before you can proceed with your doctor. Imagine those precious times wasted, namimilipit ka na nga sa sakit tapos you have to wait pa for the results? So which one will you choose, a 2-minute home screening test or a laboratory test? :p
How to use the One Step Home Screening UTI Test?
The UTI Test kit is so easy to use you can get your results in 2 minutes. Out of the box, it has 1 strip sealed in a sachet pack, booklet for instructions and a color chart to serve as your reference of UTI test results.
I tried the UTI Test Kit for adults last weekend to see how it works. It’s best to have this test in the morning, and just like your usual urinalysis, catch the midstream urine. You can also collect the urine in a container first and then dip the strip for 1-2 seconds. Lay the test strip in an absorbent material and wait for 2 minutes.
My test strip showed a hint of purple in the upper portion which means that there are traces of Leukocytes. It’s a bit faded so I guess the numbers are not high. The lower square did not change its color so I’m negative for Nitrite.
It’s advisable to have these kits at home and get tested once in a while especially if you are prone or has recurrent UTI. Everyone is at risk of developing UTI and it’s best to detect the infection at the onset before any signs of pain or discomfort occurs.
What to do if you tested positive for UTI?
The good news about this Blue Cross UTI Test kit is that it’s recognized by doctors. It has 94.4% accuracy. Just bring the test strip to your doctor so that he/she can prescribe medication or a follow-up testing. Please do not self-medicate.
Where to buy?
Blue Cross products are available at Watsons, Generika, Rose Pharmacy, South Star Drug, Metro Pharmacy, and The Generics Pharmacy.
