Baby slings vs. baby strollers

October 24, 2010 8 Comments

This pregnancy buying spree never seems to stop, after the feeding bottles, I have to decide which of these two is better, baby slings or baby strollers. For quite some time now, baby wearing seems to be the trend, maybe because of the influence of Hollywood celebrities too. I also find using baby slings convenient especially when I see mommies/daddies carrying their babies in malls while shopping. They don’t have to push their baby strollers inside crowded malls, just the parents, their baby slings and of course, their babies. I also read about the special bond established when wearing your baby. Another plus is the chic designs of fabric available nowadays. It’s also cheaper, around Php 1,000 for most slings, as compared to baby strollers.

However, some mommies complained about them and their babies perspiring when wearing slings and this is not advisable in tropical countries like the Philippines. I’m also hesitant on how much weight baby slings can actually support and carry.

Baby strollers are quite bulky but gives great support for babies. They can sleep soundly and comfortably even in malls. One disadvantage is that one needs to have a car in order to transport the baby stroller to places. Good quality strollers are expensive too!

Oh well, these all-things-baby dilemmas will still continue even after I give birth. I guess it’s because it’s our first baby so we have to start from scratch. I hope I can complete baby’s needs before our 4th wedding anniversary on January so that I can concentrate on scouting for Personal Creations anniversary gifts.

Hi sis! Visiting you here from GT.

Wow, you’re on the way pala. Congrats po. In my case, I used the Chicco baby carrier instead of sling, then later up to now, I’m using a stroller.

Lucky me I had hand-me-down stroller and baby sling from a cousin but haven’t really used the baby sling, I feel they are too fragile to confine in slings. 🙂

I’ve used a stroller for my baby though I prefer a bay sling but just like you I was quiet hesitant of how much weight the baby sling could carry. 🙂

I don’t have a baby yet but when the time comes, I might go for strollers since I have some complications with my shoulders and can’t support heavy weight. 🙁 But for sure I can carry my baby with love and care. 🙂

My sis-in-law is having a baby will share with her this post. The baby sling looks like a good idea, because it promotes bonding with the Mom.

I haven’t really thought of this since I don’t have little ones yet, but I think I’d go for the stroller. I haven’t tried wearing a baby sling though, so maybe it’s comfortable too.. ^^
