Caring for baby’s bum and debunking the baby powder myth

October 28, 2012 3 Comments

Caring for our baby’s skin is quite tricky, we can never really try one product to another on our baby’s skin. Moreso, when we talk about our baby’s bum. A baby’s bum is more sensitive and is more prone to react that may lead to diaper rashes because it is exposed to urine and poop.

I’m just thankful that Gwen’s skin is not sensitive, or maybe I’ve used the correct product right from the start hence Gwen and I were saved from the horrors of a diaper rash. Even when Gwen was still a newborn, I already used Johnson’s Baby Skin Care Wipes (the pink one) on her bum. She’s exclusively breastfed then, she pooped a lot, and I used lots of baby wipes on her and she never got diaper rashes. When my friend learned that I’m using baby wipes in cleaning her bum, she was in disbelief and told me to use cotton dipped in warm water only so as not to irritate baby’s skin. But I politely told her that Gwen has no allergic reactions with the wipes so I continued using it on her, convenient pa! Later on, I found out that Johnson’s Baby Skin Care Wipes indeed helps in preventing rash like a diaper cream because it cleans and coats baby’s bum with baby lotion.

When Gwen was 6 months old, I had a makeshift diaper caddy containing all her essentials. Oh look, pink Johnson’s baby wipes!

Handy little Iphone app

My friend is asking me to think of a name for her new baby, but I’m unsure about choosing a name. Although I have plenty of time to pick one for a boy, and one for a girl, whenever I’m making a meal for my family, it’s always on my mind. However, I’ve been pretty indecisive when it comes to baby names in the past, and I’m no different today. Fortunately, I’ve found something I can use on my phone which will make picking a name much easier.

Are You a New Gen Mom?

April 9, 2012 3 Comments

In keeping up with the times, people change, our lifestyles change, our ideas change, and so is motherhood. The way I was raised by my mother 30 years ago might not be the same style I’m doing with my own daughter. There are parenting styles that are no longer applicable today. Back then, there were no mommy blogs, mommy forum, BabyCenter, etc. that we can refer to whenever we have parenting woes.

Thanks to technology, nowadays, mommies are more armed and prepared to whatever challenges parenting might bring. These spawned a new breed of mommy, New Generation Mom or New Gen Mom.

Nursery rhymes a plenty

April 3, 2012 2 Comments

Gwen is now in the stage when she enjoys watching and listening to nursery rhymes. Thanks to Youtube, we can sing and watch all the nursery rhymes she wants for free. I’m really surprised that she can hum Twinkle Twinkle Little Star already, I posted it a few entries back but I don’t think you can view it if you’re not my friend on FB.

A few songs she likes are Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, B-I-N-G-O, If you’re happy and you know it, and all the songs that Barney sings.

To keep these milestones, Jeff prefers making a video while I prefer photos. But with Gwen singing, I agree that a video is the best way to keep. And when it comes to video, I just have to hand it over to my husband. He knows how to work around with editing videos and also doing background music using Image Line FL Studio or any other software.

What nursery rhymes do you sing with your toddlers? How do you keep these memories, do you prefer photos or videos?

First hospital admission

March 25, 2012 1 Comment

Wondering why I’ve been quiet last week? It’s an exhausting week for us because Gwen got admitted at Capitol Medical Center because of UTI and appearance of rashes which the doctors said are just viral. Saturday and Sunday, Gwen had fever (38.6 C and 39.6 C) only during night time, she’s really ill because she doesn’t want to play and would just cling to me or Jeff to be able to put to sleep. We took a leave from work to visit her pedia on Monday morning, turned out that her doctor was out of the country but she was examined by her doctor’s reliever. She said that if Gwen still has fever until Tuesday, we should get her urine for urinalysis and also get a CBC. But come Monday night, we really got worried because she kept on crying, doesn’t want to drink her milk and eat and can’t sleep. Her temperature is only at around 38 C but still, we’re worried of her crying bouts. So we decided to take her to the ER of Capitol Medical Center.

Funny thing was when we’re inside the car en route to the hospital, she became quiet and almost sleepy. We even joked that she’s just bored inside the house and would just want to roam around. We then reached CMC’s emergency room and proceeded with the usual SOP.
