Daddy, dede…

December 1, 2011 4 Comments

Gawd, this post has been sitting on my drafts since October, gotta post it!

Gwen can now utter a few syllables, I think she already said “Mommy” in the past but from BabyCenter, it’s a few mumblings and she doesn’t know what that means… But come 10 months old, she can repeatedly say “daddy… daddy”. That’s music to her daddy’s ears, hehe…

What about me? Well, she shouts my name whenever she sees me leaving the room, wants milk, or she just wants my attention. She shouts, “dede…dede…dede”… Uh oh!

She associated me with food, that every time I’m with her she’s just going to “dede”…

Is this something to be happy about or what? hehe…kidding… ang cute!

More party preps

November 11, 2011 Leave a Comment

I need to get my act together as Gwen’s party comes near. Aside from the party poppers I bought, I’m still at odds on the party details… My friends asked me what’s the party theme, I’m dumbfounded because Jollibee doesn’t allow character-themed parties so I’m left with just a color-themed party.

Party venue and food: Jollibee (I should call the branch and clarify about the party theme, what are the allowed party suppliers, etc… I wonder if they also have dlp lcd projectors for us to play Gwen’s AVP. Jeff will be making one for the guests to see.

Photobooth: booked

Face Paint: waiting for Groove Paint to confirm my schedule *crosses fingers*

Balloons: I decided not to avail of the balloon burst anymore and just make use of the balloons from Jollibee.

Giveaways: This is the hardest part. Maybe because I don’t have a theme to work on… I zeroed in on something useful so I asked a supplier in 168 mall if they can still make small flower-shaped and smiley pillows, but they don’t accept orders anymore because of the holiday orders. Still thinking what to give, *panicking*…

Jeff told me to just make a simple loot bag for the kids because we already have a photobooth, the printed photos will also serve as their souvenir.

Yay! Preparing for a party can be pretty exciting and stressful too….

Party checklist

November 7, 2011 1 Comment

Gwen’s 1st birthday is fast approaching and all my party ideas are still not put into paper. I must make a list already… So far, we’ve already booked Jollibee, so that’s one less of a headache. We didn’t get the whole party package in Jollibee though, just the food, venue and of course, Jollibee, Hetty and Twirlie mascots.

Yesterday I went to Divisoria just to scout for something useful for Gwen’s party and to check prices of party supplies. I bought two large party poppers for just Php 85 each at 168 mall.

Too much squash and carrots

October 2, 2011 1 Comment

Gwen’s diet has been mainly porridge with squash and malunggay or potatoes with carrots. I can’t think of any other baby food recipes to make. On her last check-up, her doctor mentioned about it that her nose is turning yellowish/orange. She guessed that maybe she’s eating plenty of squash.

She mentioned about carotenemia. Uh-oh, anything scientific mentioned by a doctor alarms me, and it sounds like anemia. But as she explained, it’s just a condition wherein the blood has increased blood carotene levels. The baby’s nose, palms, soles and fingers might turn yellowish or orange-ish because of this. This is due to excessive consumption of carotene-rich foods such as carrots, squash and sweet potatoes. But there’s nothing to worry about because it’s not life threatening.

But still, I will tell Nanay to lessen the carrots and squash. And I must look for other baby food recipes…

How to use a bulb syringe

September 21, 2011 Leave a Comment

A bulb syringe or nasal aspirator may be used to clear the baby’s stuffy nose or clogged nose. All you need are saline drops (we used Salinase), bulb syringe (we got this in the newborn kit from the hospital) and tissue to wipe the mucus.

  1. Apply 1 or 2 drops of Salinase. Wait for 10 minutes.
  2. Squeeze the bulb of the syringe.
  3. Insert the tip of the syringe into one nostril and gently release pressure at the bulb.
  4. Squeeze the mucus on the tissue.
  5. Repeat the process to the other nostril.

Here’s a video I found on how to use a bulb syringe to clear baby’s nose:

Important reminder though, don’t suction baby’s nose more than thrice a day because it may irritate its lining. Salinase and saline drops should also not be used 4 days in a row because it can dry out the insides of the nose. Do not suction too harsh or you’ll hurt and inflame baby’s nasal tissues.
