Sick

September 20, 2011 Leave a Comment

Gwen is sick since last week. I thought that she’s now teething due low grade fever last Tuesday and Wednesday. But when I noticed that she’s having difficulty breathing at night, we decided to take her to the doctor. She has cough and colds, and she was prescribed Nasatapp for the colds, Loviscol for cough and Amoxil as antibiotic. It was heartbreaking to see your baby hurting, now I can also say what other parents feel, I wish I can just take away her sickness in an instant.

Doctor said that she should be okay in 2 or 3 days but it’s now Tuesday and she still has stuffy nose especially at night. To make it worse, due to her stuffy nose, she can’t nurse from me. And she consumes a reduced amount of formula milk too… We tried dropping Salinase but I guess the effect is only short-lived.

Sickness in the family is really bad news, and I hope Gwen who is still fragile won’t be sick again anytime soon. It’s also an unwelcome expenses for our family budget, we could have used money for samsung lcd televisions we’ve been saving for. But it can wait, as long as baby will be fine.

Not a crawler

August 16, 2011 4 Comments

Gwen is already 7 months and she’s still not crawling. But reading from Baby Center, I should not get worried. And I know that each babies are unique and they achieve their milestones at different times. I’m just pressured and quite excited for her to crawl because my friend’s daughter is already crawling at 6 months!

Fever

July 21, 2011 4 Comments

Gwen had a slight fever last week (Thursday and Friday). We suspected that teething might be the cause of her fever. But come Saturday, fever was gone and no pearly whites erupting yet.

As first-time parents, even a slight fever alarmed us. As soon as I got a text message from home that Gwen has “sinat”, I immediately got worried and rushed home. Jeff became paranoid that it might be dengue. He didn’t slept just to monitor Gwen’s temperature, sweet daddy…

Come Saturday, Gwen is back at her cheerful self and even went to our in-laws, thank God! As Gwen’s yaya would say, lagnat-laki lang yan.

Babyproofing your home

July 15, 2011 3 Comments

When there are babies and kids living in the house, it’s important to make it baby-proof or kid-proof. Kids can go wild with their games sometimes and you can never tell an accident waiting to happen.

Here are some tips on baby proofing your home:

  • Use an electrical output plug to cover electrical outlets. This is available in hardware stores.
  • Soften the edges of furnitures such as tables, cabinets, etc… There are also plastic guards that you can buy in hardwares or department store’s home section.

A baby-friendly Singapore

July 10, 2011 3 Comments

We booked our tickets to Singapore last May, I hesitated for a moment if we’ll bring Gwen with us since she doesn’t have a passport yet. But after getting her passport in June, heck, we decided to bring her and make it her first flight. We already anticipated that it will be a tiring trip, we didn’t set any itineraries either, we’ll just go with the flow and explore wherever our feet will take us depending on Gwen’s mood. What also made me decide to bring Gwen is because we’re staying at our friend’s house who has a 10-month old baby boy too. So, bottle sterilizer, bath tub, bottle cleaners, stroller, etc. won’t be a problem and it won’t hassle us on our luggage. We’ll just bring the usuals, baby bottles, clothes, diapers, medicines/vitamins and milk. I even got the chance to buy for baby cereals at Fairprice.

Our friend has a Britax B-ready stroller that their kids use, they let Gwen use the top seat. Even if the stroller’s bulky, we can just roll it out inside lifts and MRT, yes MRT! (I wish we can do that here).

Singapore shopping: Baby foods and cereals

July 7, 2011 5 Comments

Just got back, baby’s first flight went well. Just a few shrieks and cries when landing and during take-off but thank God the passengers didn’t mind (or so I think). We just had a mall tour in Singapore, we’ll visit Universal Studios next time when the kids are older. The trip was still memorable because we were able to reconnect with our college and high school friends.

Since it’s Great Singapore Sale and the allure of GST refund, of course we went shopping. We plan on buying an outdoor camera, so we surveyed Funan Digitalife Mall for Lumix and Sony cameras. But this post isn’t about them, aside from our things, we shopped for baby foods.

Gwen has Cerelac and Earth’s Best jarred baby foods that we brought in SG, but when our friend went to Fairprice, I was happy with their wide selections of infant cereals and baby foods.

I haven’t seen Cerelac Gold Apple & Cranberry in the Philippines so I bought one. The flavor combination sounds yummy too.
