The cutest and edible monsters from Krispy Kreme

June 24, 2013 4 Comments

Here’s something that will be a hit to kids and kids at heart. Krispy Kreme launched Monsters University doughnuts in line with Disney Pixar’s Monsters University movie. A dozen of cute monsters arrived at the office and it took a lot of will power not to eat them until I get home to show to Gwen.

Thank you Krispy Kreme and Geiser Maclang!

Tikoy recipes you should try

February 10, 2013 16 Comments

Happy Chinese New Year! You know what I’m looking forward to every Chinese New Year? It’s time for tikoy (or nan giao) once again. I love the sweet and chewy combination. Sometimes, though, I get sawa because it’s oily, sliced-tikoy-dipped-in-egg-then-fried, that’s the way tikoy is cooked until Nanay and I discovered more tikoy recipes.

Oh look, sweet potatoes

August 15, 2011 1 Comment

We got invited to go swimming in Pansol, Laguna last Saturday with our friend, Eric. They will only be here for 3 weeks so we made it a point to spend time with them and their kids. Eric’s family took care of all the food, love the isaw (chicken intestines!).

isaw!

Anyway, since we’re out, we brought jarred food or the Rafferty’s Garden baby food we bought in SG for Gwen. We brought 3 packs of them, but when mealtime came, I saw boiled sweet potatoes on the table. Jeff and I had a eureka moment and decided to make Gwen mashed potatoes.

Earth’s Best organic baby food

July 28, 2011 Leave a Comment

We prefer to feed Gwen freshly prepared foods but who can’t resist the convenience of jarred baby foods? On our SG trip, this is Gwen’s baon, I put one jar in her diaper bag and brought inside the plane. I’m so worried in bringing in baby food because of so many restrictions in Singapore airport like bringing in alcoholic drinks and cigarettes.

We chose a lesser evil with these jarred foods, we bought the organic ones from Healthy Options, Earth’s Best brand. Gwen is not a picky eater and she liked all three flavors! Each bottle costs around Php 70 and baby can finish one jar in one feeding.

But then, I’d still encourage all of you to prepare your baby’s food. It’s healthier and cheaper too!

Baby food recipe: Apple Carrot Puree

July 14, 2011 7 Comments

When Gwen was about to start on solids on her 5th month, I already researched on what are the recommended first foods for babies. I wanted her first foods to be fresh fruits and veggies and not those instant cereals and jarred baby food. But my excitement went poof when her pedia advised to give her Cerelac on the first few weeks. We just obeyed the doctor’s advise and then we went ahead buying infant cereals and jarred food too since it’s handy and easy to prepare.

But one major purchase at Mothercare Singapore will change Gwen’s diet. Jeff bought a Philips Avent steamer-blender, a nifty appliance that steams the veggies, fruits or meat, once cooked, just flip it over to blend or puree the food. The end product is a freshly made baby food.

I gave it a test run last Saturday, I made Apple Carrot Puree.

Singapore shopping: Baby foods and cereals

July 7, 2011 5 Comments

Just got back, baby’s first flight went well. Just a few shrieks and cries when landing and during take-off but thank God the passengers didn’t mind (or so I think). We just had a mall tour in Singapore, we’ll visit Universal Studios next time when the kids are older. The trip was still memorable because we were able to reconnect with our college and high school friends.

Since it’s Great Singapore Sale and the allure of GST refund, of course we went shopping. We plan on buying an outdoor camera, so we surveyed Funan Digitalife Mall for Lumix and Sony cameras. But this post isn’t about them, aside from our things, we shopped for baby foods.

Gwen has Cerelac and Earth’s Best jarred baby foods that we brought in SG, but when our friend went to Fairprice, I was happy with their wide selections of infant cereals and baby foods.

I haven’t seen Cerelac Gold Apple & Cranberry in the Philippines so I bought one. The flavor combination sounds yummy too.
