Santol!

June 16, 2010 2 Comments

Santol or “wild mangosteen” is one of my staple fruits. My nanay said she also ate this when she’s pregnant with me that’s why she said “pinaglihi ako sa santol”. And growing up, I always loved eating santol, come June-August when santol is in season, Nanay always buys me santol. She would even use it as ingredient for her “sinigang” or cook “ginataang santol” for me. I would then happily eat what she had prepared with my favorite fruit.

I guess I’m lucky that it’s santol season once again because this is one fruit I always crave. I like the Bangkok santol, the meat is sweet and soft and the seeds are oozing with juices. I like to dip mine in patis/fish sauce. Yikes, staring at the photo made me want to eat one. =)
