February 13, 2014 5 Comments

The news about KidZania theme park opening here in Manila got me excited than the rumors of Disneyland opening here in the Philippines! KidZania is set to open at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig by November 2014. It is franchised by Play Innovations Inc., which is under ABS-CBN Corporation. It’s tagged as an “edutainment facility” (educational entertainment).

Free 2 week trial classes in Kumon

September 13, 2013 10 Comments

Last week, I attended a parents orientation for a 2 week free trial class in a Kumon Learning Center here in Caloocan. I registered for the 2 week trial class for Reading or Math program for my nephew, and I also wanted to check they can accommodate Gwen for their trial class. It’s a 3-hour orientation for the parents while the kids undergo a diagnostics exam so that the teachers can gauge the child’s ability.

During the orientation, I learned a lot about Kumon and its benefits to the child. We also got the chance to answer 1 Math worksheet, buti na lang addition lang, hahaha… I really believe that Math and Reading are the two key subjects that a child must master, and everything will just follow. I’d really love to tell you more about Kumon but I think the people at Kumon Learning Centers near you have more authority than I am. You can still register for the free trial classes, attend the orientation to know more about Kumon.

Activity Centers Popping All Over the Metro: Top Three Activity Center for Kids in Quezon City

May 15, 2013 Leave a Comment

It is important for children to remain active because they have so much energy stored within them. I am sure most mothers get tired of running after their kids in open spaces, but we just can’t help it. We want our children to be free, but we also want them to be safe. The easiest way to do that is by taking them to an activity center where they can run freely and safely. I was glad that there are now many choices in activity centers in the metro. To wind down my list, I am going to give you the top three activity centers in Quezon City.

Candy Factory…

Seminar for Parents: You Are Your Child’s First and Best Teacher

March 11, 2013 9 Comments

It’s such a blessing to be part of mommy groups in FB. The online world is full of supportive and enriching parents ready to help other new parents in raising their children. Parenting style nowadays is going back to the basics. Breastfeeding is the norm. Moms choose to be a WAHM so that they can be with their children. Dads are more involved. Most parents are now considering homeschooling for their children.

Gwen is 2 years old and this summer, we’re planning to enroll her in a toddler school just to see if she’s ready. Aside from that, we are all running of ideas what to teach her. She knows her ABC too well, she knows the colors, shapes and numbers, she mastered all the nursery rhymes on YouTube, she memorized it well that she recites them in a poem/monologue style sometimes, she’s already bored. Now, I just let her use her magnetic sketchpad to practice her on holding a pencil.

At this point, I don’t know what else can a 2-year-old can learn and what else can a clueless mommy teach her. So I’m attending this parenting seminar called “You Are Your Child’s First and Best Teacher” by Mariel Uyquiengco of The Learning Basket to be held at the Medela House on March 23, 2013, 9 to 11 am.

Raising a child: Then and now

December 5, 2012 Leave a Comment

I received an interesting infographic entitled “Crib to College” comparing the costs of raising a child up until sending him/her to college. Although the year of comparison 1960 seem so far-stretched, still the trend for the cost is going up, up, up! And I’m really really nervous and worried every time I think of the time when Gwen goes to school. I hope Jeff and I can still send her to a really good school. =)

Meanwhile, check out this infographic and see what I’m talking about:
