Cheaper vaccines at Jacob’s Ladder Immunization Center

April 24, 2015 18 Comments

We all know that having our children vaccinated is a must for their protection against diseases, but it’s also a fact that completing that immunization chart costs an arm and a leg. I swear, when Gwen finished her series of “shots” when she was around 2 years old, I was relieved. Parang natapos na ako sa gastos. Coughing up 3,000-5,000 pesos every pedia visit is no joke. Now that Gwen is 4 years old, our pedia reminded us that it’s time for her booster shots especially the chicken pox since uso daw ngayon.

Aksyon Laban sa Dengue with Calpol

October 7, 2014 Leave a Comment

Every time Gwen has a high fever, we are really paranoid that it might be dengue. Fortunately, all those high fevers were just viral. Last month, Gwen had on and off fever, but her fever is not high, just 37-38 C, and only occurs during night time. She’s and eating like her normal self. She just have cough and colds. On and off fever lasted for a week. The following week, her temperature went up to 39 C and she had rashes on her trunk and arms, that’s the time we went to the ER to have her blood checked. The blood chem results showed that her platelets were fine and that it’s only viral infection so we were able to go home, the doctor from the ER prescribed antibiotics. Fever was gone after 3 days of taking antibiotics together with Paracetamol, cough, and colds medicine.

Although her fever was gone, we were still worried because her rashes are still visible. Part of me was also scared after reading some stories on Facebook about a Dengue strain that begins initially as pneumonia or cough/colds, you’ll discover it’s dengue when it’s already too late, and that some kid already died. So to be sure, we had her blood checked again after a week, this is because we’re also leaving for Bangkok so para everything’s clear na. Thankfully, results were good and we were given a go signal by the pedia.

Long story I know, but the point is, dengue fever is no joke, especially to children. That’s why in my family, we closely monitor if Gwen has fever. Jeff is the one who keeps an eye on those rashes, and monitors her temperature too!

Have you seen the latest video from Unilab? It’s about their Husay at Malasakit campaign.

‘Di lang maraming nalalaman, maraming natutulungan
Magaling sa ginagawa, mapag-alaga sa kapwa

Makabago man ang proseso, hindi nawawala ang puso
Bawat hakbang may husay, bawat galaw may malasakit

Para lahat ay masaya, masigla, panatag
Ganyan kami nagsimula, ganyan kami magpapatuloy…
Husay at Malasakit, UNILAB ‘yan!

Mercury Drug Flu Vaccination Schedule July 26 to August 16, 2014

July 24, 2014 1 Comment

Mercury Drug stores will be having a series of flu vaccination during Saturdays starting July 26, 2014 until August 16, 2014. It is flu season and if there’s one vaccine that I think is worth to have, it’s for the flu. Gwen’s doctor advised that school children, elderly, frequent travelers, and people with medical conditions should get a flu vaccine. Gwen and the senior citizens, Nanay and Papa, already got their flu shots last summer from their doctors. The pedia charged Php 1,500 for the flu vaccine that’s why Jeff and I are waiting for this schedule from Mercury Drug because it’s cheaper.

July 15, 2014 5 Comments

I heard about Green Barley for quite some time but didn’t try it because I thought it’s just another hype that promises to cure all illnesses. But a co-parent from Gwen’s school convinced me to try and see the benefits of Green Barley juice to Gwen.
