Sick…here we go again

July 23, 2013 Leave a Comment

It’s fever, cough and colds season once again and the kids are the ones who get hit…badly. Last Tuesday, Gwen had a 38.6 C fever, but had gone down with the help of Biogesic. She had no appetite at all. By Thursday, there’s no fever but it’s the cough and colds that didn’t gave her a sound sleep. Her 2 cousins were scheduled for a check-up at their pedia in St. Luke’s because of…. well, fever too.

Yes, they’re sick. Hindi halata no?

On breast health: impromptu biopsy

January 28, 2013 19 Comments

This will be a two-part post on breast health, if you’re following me on Twitter, you know that Nanay underwent mastectomy last December because of a malignant tumor in her right breast. That’s why I got so busy because I was the one accompanying her to the hospital for laboratories since November. Thank God it went well and Nanay is fully recovered.

I learned my lesson from Nanay, that I should also visit a doctor for check-up, since I also have a lump in my breast. I had it checked twice pa lang, with Dra. Diana Cua at Medical Plaza Makati, and the other doctor at Makati Medical Center. They said before that it’s benign and no need to undergo surgery because it’s still small. Few months ago, I noticed another lump in my right breast, kaya lang I wasn’t sure if it’s blocked milk ducts since I’m still breastfeeding.

When Nanay decided to pay Dra. Cua’s clinic for a second opinion post-mastectomy, nakisabay na rin ako since I still have my records there. Nanay got her good news that she doesn’t need chemotherapy nor radiation nor other medicines because her case is not a type of cancer, hooray!

Nakaka-smile pa ako before the check-up…

Ceelin Plus para Kontra-Sakit, Kontra Liit

November 18, 2012 1 Comment

Fact:

In 2011, the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) conducted a study on the nutritional status of Filipino children showing that 3 in every 10 children, ages 0-5 years old, are stunted for their age.

A United Nations Development Programme study also revealed that the Philippines has the second highest incidence of stunting in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia getting the top spot.

This is a very alarming issue among Filipino children and parents today, growth stunting. That’s why Ceelin Plus launched its “Kontra Sakit, Kontra Liit” campaign to create awareness about growth stunting and how to combat it by having strong immunity.

Do children need flu vaccine?

May 11, 2012 20 Comments

YES. At least that’s what the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends. At first, we were hesitant to have influenza vaccine for Gwen, if we can get by with minimal amount of drugs aside from the ones listed on the immunization schedule, then we’re good. We’re also glad that her pediatrician is a little conservative too when it comes to vaccination, she’ll say to us if it’s not really needed like the Rotavirus vaccine (Gwen doesn’t really need it since she we are breastfeeding that time and just observe cleanliness at all times.)

When we learned that flu vaccines for 2012 are now available at the clinic, we asked if it’s really needed. The doctor said the following reasons on why children need to have flu vaccine:

Is e-cigarette really safe?

September 1, 2011 Leave a Comment

Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes might be heaven-sent for those who want to quit smoking. Because it’s like giving them the satisfaction of smoking without the harmful side effects. Did you know that smoking is now allowed in malls? Well, that’s if you’re using an e cigarette. I also got surprised when I saw someone “smoking” and found that he’s holding an e-cigarette.

Now, with the e cigarette becoming popular, I’m just curious if it’s really safe? And what about other people beside the users who inhaled the smokes? Does second-hand smoke also applies with e cigarettes?

Wrist pain-New Mom Syndrome

May 26, 2011 4 Comments

If you’re a new mom and you’re experience pain in your thumb and wrist area, then you’re experiencing DeQuervain’s Tendonitis or New Mom Syndrome. Pain is caused by the inflammation of tendons in the thumb and arises from repetitive lifting of baby improperly. I happen to notice this shooting pain on my wrist when Gwen is 4 months old and I took care of her for one week because we let go of Yaya#3. I was constantly carrying Gwen at that time. I just shrugged off the pain for weeks unsuspecting that baby carrying is the culprit. But since the pain won’t go away, I googled it and found out that I’m not the only one having this pain.

So, along with my research on lipofuze reviews, I searched for tips on how to treat/manage New Mom Syndrome:

  • Apply ice pack to the affected area to reduce inflammation. Do this 2-3 times per day for 10 minutes.
  • A splint to immobilize and rest the thumb and wrist may  be used.
  • If not breastfeeding, over-the-counter pain relievers can help.
  • Apply topical pain relievers such as Ben-gay to the affected area.
