I’m not OA with this novel coronavirus scare, I’m just being a mommy!

January 31, 2020 Leave a Comment

Motherhood changes you, I knew a lot of friends who went from happy-go-lucky into driven and focused individuals. More caring, more sensitive, more loving. Being a parent made me a more responsible adult, and that’s a good thing, right? I am not just looking after my own welfare but for my family as well.

I think it’s not fair when people invalidate other parents and tag them as OA over this 2019 novel coronavirus scare. OA na kung OA but I have a child and a family to protect. I understand fellow parents who are worried as hell like me whenever my daughter goes to school, too many what ifs… (baka tinanggal nya ang mask nya, baka hindi sya naghugas ng kamay, etc.)

Parenting our kids in the age of social media

February 27, 2019 3 Comments

Have you seen or read the news about the Momo challenge? How about those inserted/spliced suicide videos in some Splatoon video in YouTube? Tapos may nabalita rin kay Erwin Tulfo na isang bata na nag-overdose sa gamot and they are suspecting that it’s because of a video challenge.

I gave up my career for my daughter to #GoTheExtraSmile

December 10, 2018 25 Comments

I envisioned myself to be a working mom, I will prepare my daughter’s needs for school before rushing to go to work. At lunchtime or during breaks, I will call yaya at home to check on my daughter’s homework, and if she had her lunch. Upon going home, I will call to send instructions on what to cook for dinner. At night time, I will tuck my daughter to sleep after having a nice chitchat on how our day went.

Such a perfect dream… but in reality, motherhood is chaotic. Being yayaless for a months, it’s all about deranged schedules, rushed breakfast, unbuttoned school uniforms, and mismatched socks. Gwen can sense my stress. I was stressed because we still can’t find someone to care for my daughter…. and I was stressed because I can feel that something has to change, I need to make a decision, I need to give up something, my career.

And this happened… I said goodbye to the corporate life I’ve been dreaming of since I was little. I gave up my 5 years in college and those sleepless nights reviewing for board exams. I chose my family, my daughter.

Of signs and answered prayers: From a working mother to SAHM

August 24, 2018 8 Comments

It’s a turning point in my life, and also with my family of three. After being a working mom for 7 years, I decided to be a full-time mommy to Gwen. If you’re following my posts on FB, Gwen’s yaya didn’t come back when she went to the province last May, makiki-fiesta lang daw sya. Una, 2 weeks, biglang nagkasakit ang lola, naging 1 month… hanggang sa wala ng paramdam. Take note, nag-iwan pa ng mga gamit nya dito sa amin, yun pala hindi na babalik :(. So from June, Nanay helped in looking after Gwen while Jeff and I go to work. When classes started last July, wala na, chaos at stress na talaga. From waking up early in the morning to prepare Gwen’s lunch, then prepping up to go to work, tapos rushing home after work kasi may homework/quiz/projects pa si Gwen. I can no longer be a multi-hyphenated mom, wala akong bato ni Darna :p, I need to decide if we should hire a yaya again na kahit hindi namin gaanong kakilala or or if I will resign from work.

when in doubt choose the kids
