DIY Home Improvement

October 4, 2019 1 Comment

One of the many joys of having your own place is beautifying it according to your own style. It could be a form of self-expression – you fill it with items that remind people of you. Sweet, right? From time to time, you’d also want to improve your home and make some changes according to your mood.

Up for some home improvement? No need to break the bank. You can do it yourself with a little creativity.

Often, when homeowners hear ‘home improvement,’ they instantly frown at the idea of spending too much for new furniture, materials, and labor. This is not always the case and you can do it yourself by following these tips:

Repaint the house

You can improve the house without having to purchase any fancy furniture. Wall paint can dramatically change the mood of your humble abode. You just have to choose the color that best fits your taste and will look great for a long time.

On a budget? Simply repaint your doors or window casings. This is enough to give your house the newly-renovated look.

Add some wall art

Among the things that give any house a personal touch is wall art. Art is subjective, so choose something that is uniquely you or appeals to you. This is fun, especially if you buy from local artists since it will give your house a distinct ‘Filipino’ character.

Decorate on a budget

Have you heard about Dapitan Arcade? It’s a good place to find affordable, functional, and beautiful pieces to add to your home. For instance, leather organizers are not only easy on the eyes but they are also useful. You can find items that cost P120 to P500 depending on the material and size.

Thinking vintage for your next home improvement project? Wherever you decide to shop, shop smart. Time your visit, compare the prices, and ask for discounts.

Redesign an old plastic or wooden dining chair

Now, let’s go to one of the most relevant pieces in the house – the chairs. Whether you have a plastic chair or a wooden stool, paint the seat or backrest with your favorite solid color of the year to jazz it up and turn it into an accent piece. You may also try chevron stripes if you love patterns and feel quirky.

Repot your plants

For simple but impactful home improvement, repot plants into personalized planters. Your garden will have a unique touch when you display your proudly crafted planters. Go online and search for some cute planter design ideas. It’s time to bring your Pinterest ideas to life!

Jazz up your kitchen cabinets

Do your current kitchen cabinets look plain? Time to update your cabinets and cupboards instantly using washi tape. It is easy to change the design and you can even work with patterns. A lot of sources online offer guides for beginners, so the outcome will look like it’s been done by a pro.

Put new shower curtains

Your home makeover wouldn’t be done without updating your bathroom. Have you tried using two shower curtains? For a cute new look, hang a fabric curtain panel on the dry side and vinyl on the wet side. You can change the fabric curtain to come up with new curtain combinations that change the look of the bathroom without costing much.

There are a lot of things you can do without spending your hard-earned money. Next time you want a home makeover, get your creative juices flowing to get an artistic outcome without going over budget.
