DIY Slime, No Borax

September 2, 2017 7 Comments

Every kid is talking about slime, Gwen has been bugging me for weeks that we make our own slime. Thankfully, this long weekend got me some spare time to make our DIY Slime using glue, contact lens solution, and Ariel liquid detergent. We didn’t use borax which most slime recipe calls for.

The simplest slime recipe we found requires only 3 ingredients: Glue, Liquid detergent like Ariel, and food coloring. We don’t have food coloring at home so we used Gwen’s styrofoam balls for color.

Later after watching Gwen’s YouTube video, you’ll notice that we failed the first time. Our slime is still runny, maybe we added too much Ariel???

Slime FAIL :(… still runny

So we added a few drops of contact lens solution and added more glue.

The contact lens solution did the trick! Slime success!

Stretchy and colorful slime!

I hope you can also watch Gwen’s video on YouTube, she really enjoyed making the slime. If you want some bonding time with your kids, buy some glue and a sachet of liquid detergent. Gwen thanked me a dozen times and she thinks I’m the best mommy ever! 🙂

I’m definitely going to have to make this with my kids! I love that it doesn’t require the borax that most recipes call for! Do you know if any laundry detergent will do?

I’ve seen all kinds of posts for slime, but you’re right. Most contain Borax. This slime looks super easy to make and like it would be a lot of fun.

Summer was filled with DIY projects. Now that we are back in school, the kids aren’t doing as many hands-on things. They miss the dirty, messy, and creative fun! They would love to create some of this slime!

Simple and yet so creative! I love this and I think my little one is going to have soooo much fun playing with this. We are going to try it this weekend. I have never made it before which will make it all the more fun!

I did pretty much the same recipe for slime at a how to make slime event at my library. The only thing that we did differently was add the soda water to it so that it would clump together more quickly and stay together. It made the slime a bit different but it did work more quickly in congealing. Great pictures.
