Mommies, do you have this?

January 12, 2011 19 Comments

When my Auntie Stella came to the rescue in helping me take care of Gwen, she requested for me to buy Aceite Alcanforado and Aceite de Manzanilla. Clueless on those weird sounding names, I bought it at Mercury. Upon reading the label, Aceite de Manzanilla is a blend of chamomile and citronella oil and Aceite Alcanforado is for colds to be applied on baby’s back.

bigkis, Aceite Alcanforado, Aceite de Manzanilla

The white cloth is “bigkis” which is tied around baby’s tummy also to prevent colic (kabag). Aceite de Manzanilla is applied on baby’s tummy to prevent colic, head and can also be used to massage her legs.

I’m quite wary on using the two Aceite though, as I want an all natural approach for the baby as much as possible. I have to tinf time to research on the side effects of this.

Mommies, do you also use these? Care to share your baby care tips?

I haven’t heard about the Aceite Alcanforado which can be use for colds. What I only have are bigkis and aceite manzanilla which I also use for my baby especially after her bath.

I only have the manzanilla (bought by the MIL). Since my delivery, my mother kept bugging me to buy one. I didn’t buy it because the pedia told me not to use it on my baby as it could irritate a baby’s sensitive skin. I only was confident to use it finally when baby was over a year old. That was the time when she couldn’t sleep and was very upset with no apparent reason.

Today, my baby is 10 wks old..and this is her best day because she didn’t cry a lot and was slept the whole time since i applied the aciete de manzanilla and alcamforado on her. She released gas several times after a while. I should have done this earlier so i didn’t get a hard time taking care of her. My older daughter even asked me why she always cry.

My son is 9 weeks old now and was diagnose with G6PD, before I know that menthol products are not safe to use to babies with this deficiency I always use Aceite de Manzinilla to him to help him with colic but when our pedia told us that even Aciete de Manzilla should be avoided because if the menthol effect I was sad because this helps my son but now I just massage his stomach if he feels unease.

I used to be resistant to using aceite de manzanilla because I had dismissed its use as some old wives’ tale and I considered myself a modern mom.

Boy, was I wrong! My eldest was a colicky little thing, and after several sleepless nights, I finally decided to try massaging some of the oil on his tummy.

It worked! It saved my sanity.

I’ve always had a bottle of it around since then. My kids love its smell and always ask for it when they have tummy aches.

I’m quite wary on using the two Aceite though, as I want an all natural approach for the baby as much as possible. I have to make room to research on the side effects of this instead of looking through which diet pills actually work.

    – that was unexpected. These aceites are the most natural as you could get! Those ingredients are very natural and trustworthy. Our mom raised us with these bottles handy and ive been dependent on them when i get sick or not feel well – which is very rare. I prefer these than meds out there. Plus aromatherapy from these products are a big plus. My daughter, now 11 yrs old, love these too and she has taken pahid pahid as a normal way of healing ones self. These are very good products. Rub alcanforado on your baby’s back to prevent cough and cold.

Thanks for this Guia! Yeah, I guess they are safe as long as babies don’t ingest it.

Our nanny put aceite de manzanilla on my baby sister’s soft stop on the head instead of her lower abdomen when she had tummy problems. Mom was outraged(from my point of view), is it safe? Just need answers. Thank you.

    P.S. It’s worrying me.

That soft spot in the head is the most sensitive part of the baby. It’s best not to put aceite de manzanilla on it.

Yeah, minsan kahit ayaw mo na, mapipilitan ka na lang eh. Pero minsan I know my limits, especially if it concerns my child.

Been using aceite de alcamforado on my babies, from my 10-year old daughter to my 6-month old. I use it to relieve them from dry cough and surprisingly, they get healed without needing any cough medicines. Just massage the alcamforado on the baby’s back and chest esp. before bedtime so he can sleep well.

I have two kids and they were both colic babies. Aceite manzanilla was the only natural way of treating them , when they were gassy. Even now, they are grown up. They also use this oil when they are bloated due to monthly period, just rub it to the tummy and they feel well after half an hour.

Also waiting for an answer, my daughter ingested a bit of alcanforado it actually spilled over her face and I quickly brought her to the shower to rid of the menthol. But I am wondering of the effect if ingested. Thank you for the answers.
