Moving Across the Country with Less Hassles—Is it Possible?

September 17, 2018 3 Comments

To those who have moved multiple times already, it is almost impossible to think that you can move without your hair falling out or seeing an unpleasant surprise on your face, a.k.a., red, angry zit. Or for some, it could either be losing a few pounds or gaining some as a result of a change in your eating habits.

Okay, that may sound like a bit exaggerated, but it happens, friend. Especially, if you’re the kind of person who tend to overthink about some major life changes. Moving across the country is stressful. We can’t avoid that altogether.

However, what if I tell you that you can actually reduce the hassles? Here, we sum up foolproof tricks on how to make your move easier than what you think even when that means travelling from east to west. Also, do you want to know how to keep yourself healthy during your move? Find out here.

Choose Your Moving Company Wisely

I’m going to tell you a common story about hiring movers that doesn’t have a good ending. Say, we have a company we will call Kenny Movers, of course, this is a fictional name and it doesn’t refer to any moving company that bears the same name. Again, this is just for the sake of providing you with an example that you can probably relate to.

So, here comes the usual situation. You look up information online or ask friends about moving companies and you came across Kenny Movers. Then, you took out your phone, dialed the company’s number and a super friendly guy named Kenny answers back from the other line. Kenny tells you to describe the items you wish to move, after which, he offered an estimate at the lowest price you’ve encountered.

So, you booked for Kenny’s moving services, only to find later on you’ve been tricked. They say that the rate is actually way higher than the estimate. But you’re left with no choice—it’s the day of your move.

The point is, don’t be fooled by the lowest offers you get! Always check the company’s reputation online. Ask for current client references. Also, take note that you shouldn’t get estimates just by describing your stuff over the phone. The company needs to send their representative to your home to see the actual situation and give a more accurate estimate. In addition to hiring professional movers, there are also other moving options you can choose from that can save you time and money.

Get Rid of Everything and Book a Flight to Your New City

Many individuals found that moving with less stuff, if possible, only your clothes, bags, shoes, gadgets, and other essentials, is your way to go when relocating across the country. That mirror you have sentimental attachment to is something you can purchase in your new city anyway. And when you sell that furniture, you can finally update your home’s interior. Take note: You’ll have a new home. You surely want to start anew in your new city after all, right?

So, go ahead, make some listings on Craigslist and sell your stuff, especially the biggest, bulkiest ones. With the money you’ll be earning, you can finally buy new items for your new home. Besides, you’ll most likely stumble upon cheap finds for your new home in your new city, too.

And here’s a useful tip: Paste price tags to all the items you’re selling so that when a buyer comes by to pick the item he chose, he might also end up buying something else.

Another option for the items you can’t sell but you don’t want to waste either is to give away to your friends or donate to charities. That box of cereals? One of your friends will surely love getting it. And that unfinished bottle of white wine will surely have a new home.

For the other stuff you can’t take on your flight, you have the option to ship it to your new location. That easy. When you hop into the plane, your travel to your new city would just be a few minutes or some hours, instead of back-breaking multiple-day road trip. Imagine the convenience!

Is it possible to apply these tips in your situation? Who knows, you can finally have less stress on your next move when you do so.

Garage sale is a thing here. When people are moving to a new house or traveling, they always have state sale to get rid of their stuff. 🙂
