Nursing in public

May 2, 2011 4 Comments

When you’re breastfeeding, one challenge you have to face is to breastfeed in public. When Gwen was 1 month old, we already took her to Alabang Town Center. In the middle of our malling experience, she cried and wouldn’t stop. I panicked and didn”t know where to go since I can’t find a breastfeeding station. It’s a good thing that we’re shopping for a gift at Kamiseta that time, they have comfy flowery sofas there…

I’m also not brave enough to bare my skin and my flabby tummy (because I’m not using bpi a50) when breastfeeding in public, thanks to the invention of nursing covers. I’m using one from Next9. I salute mommies I see in public vehicles such as jeepneys who breastfeed while inside the vehicle. I can only breastfeed Gwen and whip out my boobs blatantly when we’re inside the house and inside the car. When we’re in a restaurant or malls, we will first look for a quiet and less crowded spot before we nurse and use the cover.

Now that Gwen is 4 months old, she dislikes being covered and became curious with her surroundings. This is another challenge for me, nursing in public without a cover! Another thing that hinders me from breastfeeding in public is because of my conservative husband, haha. He’s more conscious that I might show something not for public consumption even when I’m using the cover. I do hope that there will be more breastfeeding stations set up in malls, restaurants and parks in the future.

i also nurse in public… making sure though that i get enough cover. si Soo Ae kase biglang tumatanggal from being latched to look around, kkk… kaso mahirap pag kasama namin mother in law ko, hinihilang tanggalin ko nursing cover ko at nahihirapan daw yung bata. i argued with my hubby about it. na sabihan mama nya na alam ko kung kailan nahihirapan ang anak ko dahil ako ang nanay, kkk… kainis di ba…

When I go to the mall or department store and my baby girl needs to feed, I go to their fitting room and nurse her there.
