Yaya Reflections (Why they stay, why they leave, etc.)

April 1, 2013 9 Comments

Yaya Gladys has been with us for more than a year. We like her very much because she loves Gwen and Gwen loves her as well. Gwen is always clean, smells fresh and happy when they are together. Gladys is one perfect yaya (almost), except for her chronic Extended Vacation Leaves.

She seldom goes out for day-offs. She’s a homebody, whenever we go out, she requests to be left at home which is fine with us, at least solo namin si Gwen. But when she takes a vacation which is like every 2 or 3 months (Nueva Ecija lang naman kaya malapit), nakoooo, she NEVER comes back on time. She usually goes home when there’s a long weekend, lagi nyang dahilan, mahirap sumakay. Worse, she never answers our text messages and phone calls when she’s away! Parang wala kaming pinagsamahan…. I always feel na nakikipagplastikan lang sa amin when she’s with us, tapos pag umuuwi na sa kanila, balewala na lang kami. I know I should not get affected but we treat her as a family, we took her to our family vacations, she eats what we eat, I buy her clothes, gives her transpo fees during her vacation, she’s one spoiled yaya.

Okay, enough ranting. Sorry but I need to vent this out.

So yeah, what makes ’em yayas stay anyway? Here are some of my observations.

Cotton On Kids in Trinoma

March 22, 2013 18 Comments

Has it been months since I went to Trinoma? Because I was surprised to see a Cotton On Kids boutique there. After our biking activity, we headed to Trinoma for lunch and window shop. After passing the MAC store, my eyes were peeled on the colorful window display, and that 30% off sign posted, hehe….

Bike weekend

March 16, 2013 16 Comments

The little girl got interested with bikes. Every time she sees her daddy riding his bike to work, she’ll stare at his bike and his helmet. So we let her use her cousin’s bike so that she can practice. Every afternoon, her yaya will look after her outside the house because she wants to bike. After a few weeks, she beams with pride because she can pedal the bike and steer it.

So earlier, we brought her to Quezon Memorial Circle para mas maluwag. The little girl is so happy!

Seminar for Parents: You Are Your Child’s First and Best Teacher

March 11, 2013 9 Comments

It’s such a blessing to be part of mommy groups in FB. The online world is full of supportive and enriching parents ready to help other new parents in raising their children. Parenting style nowadays is going back to the basics. Breastfeeding is the norm. Moms choose to be a WAHM so that they can be with their children. Dads are more involved. Most parents are now considering homeschooling for their children.

Gwen is 2 years old and this summer, we’re planning to enroll her in a toddler school just to see if she’s ready. Aside from that, we are all running of ideas what to teach her. She knows her ABC too well, she knows the colors, shapes and numbers, she mastered all the nursery rhymes on YouTube, she memorized it well that she recites them in a poem/monologue style sometimes, she’s already bored. Now, I just let her use her magnetic sketchpad to practice her on holding a pencil.

At this point, I don’t know what else can a 2-year-old can learn and what else can a clueless mommy teach her. So I’m attending this parenting seminar called “You Are Your Child’s First and Best Teacher” by Mariel Uyquiengco of The Learning Basket to be held at the Medela House on March 23, 2013, 9 to 11 am.

Tips before going to Sidcor Sunday Market

March 6, 2013 8 Comments

Centris Walk in Quezon Avenue corner Edsa is becoming a lifestyle hub. There are restaurants, nail salon, gym, coffee place and an open space for kids and pets to enjoy. Every Sunday, crowds go here because of Sidcor Sunday Market. It’s my first time to go here and I was surprised how big it was. I thought that it’s just a small place with sellers with small booths. It’s very complete and organized at that.
