Sick…here we go again

July 23, 2013 Leave a Comment

It’s fever, cough and colds season once again and the kids are the ones who get hit…badly. Last Tuesday, Gwen had a 38.6 C fever, but had gone down with the help of Biogesic. She had no appetite at all. By Thursday, there’s no fever but it’s the cough and colds that didn’t gave her a sound sleep. Her 2 cousins were scheduled for a check-up at their pedia in St. Luke’s because of…. well, fever too.

Yes, they’re sick. Hindi halata no?

The pedia requested for a CBC and Dengue test just to be sure, because her cousins had Scarlet fever a few weeks prior to that. Scarlet fever is scary pala… We just tagged along with my brother so it’s just me, Gwen and yaya Rose, Jeff’s in the office. I got scared knowing that they will draw blood from Gwen, eh ayoko nga ng dugo… But I have to be calm so that she won’t get afraid too. I just said that nurse will do a magic trick and that blood will appear in the syringe. I said this in a jovial tone, (para hindi halatang ako ang takot). Mukha namang effective coz look at my brave little girl…

She did not cry at all =)

What’s great about St. Lukes is their E-Health feature on their website. I got to view the results after 2 hours. And thank God that it’s not dengue and looks like a viral infection. We’re supposed to go back on Friday at St. Lukes but the pedia said that a reliever will take her place because she won’t be back until Monday. Sheesh.

Kaya ayun, we just went to her pedia in Chinese General Hospital last Saturday. She confirmed that it’s viral, bad news is that Gwen has pneumonia, bad case of cough. She had to take antibiotics, cough meds and nebulize. Normally, I don’t have a problem making her drink medicines but it’s a different story with antibiotics. She was prescribed Unasyn, and though it says Cherry Flavor, it has the stinkiest smell of a medicine, it’s crying time twice a day for 7 days.

So better up your children’s immune system para di magkasakit, loads of vitamin C. If your child has fever for 3 days, have them checked, aside from Dengue, uso rin daw ang Scarlet fever these days. And if that cough sounds bad, call the doctor too.
