The Haleakala Crater offers a glimpse into Hawaii’s history and the origin and is about19 square miles in diameter. “Wianapanapa” means “glistening water” and the state park is unique indeed.  The beach was created on a fresh, bubbling lava flow, long, long ago and it took almost a millennia for it to be ground down into a beach.There is the lot to see in the 120 tropical acres of Waianapanapa State Park that boasts of natural stone arches, ancient lava caves, panoramic vistas and hidden blowholes. The illuminated waters look striking against pitch black basalt rocks on a sunny day. The shoreline is made of volcanic sediment, and one can hike along the park’s primary trail.
