Where-to-weekend: Catching Butterflies and Barbie

Summer vacation is ending soon so why not spend the last weekend of May with the kids. Here are two events for May 28 and May 29 where the whole family can go.

May 28, Saturday: Catching Butterflies: Spotting the Symptoms of Thyroid Disorders in Children

Thyroid disorders affect millions of Filipinos, yet very few are aware of them. One in 11 Filipino adults has goiter, and around one in 12 Filipino adults suffers from some form of thyroid disease. It is estimated that eight out of every 1000 children worldwide are affected by thyroid disease. The International Thyroid Awareness Week (ITAW) is the perfect opportunity to learn more about how the thyroid gland and the thyroid disorders that affect one’s metabolism.

The main objective of this event is to raise awareness of thyroid disorders in children and in pregnant women. Apart from having a lecture, there will also be a screening and a checkup for those with the symptoms of thyroid disorder, as well as consultation and compliance in treatment.

The “Catching Butterflies” event will cover more than just health awareness; there are tons of events that will make it enjoyable. Going with the theme of pretty butterflies to represent the thyroid gland, there will be exciting prizes, butterfly clay art, caricature, cookies, dance numbers, mascots, and so much more.

May 29, Sunday: Barbie #YouCanBeAnything Day

Just purchase at least Php 1000 worth of any Barbie merchandise from participating The SM Store and Toy Kingdom outlets from April 29 – May 29 and present your receipt (single or accummulated) at the registration area of the event on May 29 at SM Mall of Asia Atrium to get one (1) Barbie Pink Passport.

Your Pink Passport will be given to you on the event itself and will be your pass to the following activities: Pink Salon, Fashion Closet, Doll’icious Bakeshop, B-TV Station, and B-Artistic Booth.

If your kids want to join Barbie Open Call Fashion Show at 2pm, they must come in their best #YouCanBeAnything costume, register to the event and don’t forget to bring a Barbie doll to qualify. Screening time is from 10 am to 1 pm only. Limited slots only.
